CJ7 Rear Triangulated 4 Link Suspension Build
This week we are working on our CJ7 rear triangulated 4 link suspension build with a bunch of parts from Barnes 4WD. The upper triangulated 4 link rear suspension should be a pretty good setup for the rock crawling we will be doing with this rig.

How To Choose 4 Link Suspension Mounts - Upper Triangulated 4 Link
Просмотров 7 тыс.4 года назад
Today we are talking about how to choose 4 link suspension mounts for building you rock crawler 4 link. We are mainly focusing on upper triangulated 4 link suspension build designs as they are the most common and easier to set up. We got with our friends over at Barnes 4WD and picked up a bunch of different 4 link suspension mount options. In our CJ7 rock crawler we have a bit of a space constr...
Building A Rock Crawler Jeep - CJ7 One Ton Axle Swap
Просмотров 14 тыс.4 года назад
This week in building a rock crawler jeep we are doing a one ton axle swap on our cj7 build. We are pretty much building a rock crawler from scratch on this one as when we bought this project it was just a tub of a CJ7 on a YJ frame with a roll cage built on it. We decided to use a bunch of Barnes 4WD products to help us put the CJ7 on tons. I sourced a Chevy kingpin Dana 60 for the front and G...
Mounting Atlas 4 Speed - Barnes 4wd Crossmember Mounting Set
Просмотров 4,8 тыс.4 года назад
This week we are building a transmission crossmember using the Barnes 4wd crossmember mounting set. We need a custom transmission crossmember for mounting Atlas 4 speed and our 4L60E transmission in our CJ7 rockcrawler. Installing atlas 4 speed in the CJ7 was a bit of work as the shape of the floor never intended to have such a large transfer case right up against it.
Rock Crawler CJ7 LS Build - Mounting The Engine

This week are are continuing to push forward on our rock crawler CJ7 LS build. To facilitate the CJ7 LS build we are using a set of Daves Unlimited Customs LS swap engine mounts. Daves Customs CJ7 LS engine mounts take a lot of the guess work out of locating the engine on the CJ7 LS conversion. While doing the CJ7 LS swap we decided to go with a custom built 4L60E transmission and we are instal...

We picked up the Barnes 4wd 14 bolt axle truss, Barnes 4wd dana 60 truss, Barnes 4wd ram mount, Barnes 4wd crossmember kit, and the Barnes 4wd 14 bolt pinion bridge. These parts will allow us to do a junkyard axle swap so we can throw 1 ton axles in our CJ7 rockcrawler build. Using an axle truss kit will s...

thanks for the video. I am swapping a Jeep CJ 7 with an LS 5.3 engine, 4l60 transmission and I have an issue with mounting the gearbox and transfer case. The space between the transfer outlet and the rear differential is too short, the pinion angles are too much. In addition to the double driveshaft I would like to modify the angle of the engine. how can I do it? How many degrees can I lower the engine? Is there a video where it is explained

But you limited the rear travel quite a bit. The tire can't tuck under the fender at full flex. You lost like 5 inch of travel .

I'll be honest this rig has hit the back burner due to life circumstances and it has not been finished or road driven yet. I personally am not aware of any drawbacks to driving on the road with such a setup... however I am by no means an expert. Sorry we are unable to be of any more assistance. Hopefully someday this rig will get drug out of the back corner of the garage and finished however for now it's going to continue to sit and catch dust for a while. Thanks for reaching out though.

I am installing this in my XJ and it does not fit my group 34 battery. The tray is almost an inch shorter than the stock one. I'm about to cut the flange off and weld some angle to it to make it long enough. For $160 I am not happy. I would not recommend. I went online to see if I missed something. I guess it is meant for Optima group 34 batteries only. It looked awesome despite Rusty's lousy reputation but I decieded it's a battery tray how can they screw it up.

Hello I’m in the process of swapping jk dana 44s in to my xj. I’ve already got the front done now just need to swap the rear hopefully in the next week or 2. Any advice on how to get my measurements and calculations for the new leaf spring perches to have the axle centered correctly. This is the only part I’m questioning myself. As I don’t want screw up and the spring perches not centered correctly. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated on how to go about figuring out the measurements to properly center rear axle with new spring perches. Thanks again.

    • @SWActiveExplorers
      @SWActiveExplorers 2 года назад

The rear end is the easiest part. Ideally you've got the old axle as a template. Measure how far apart the spring pearches are on the old axle. Set the new perches that far apart. You can also temp install the springs and let them hang and verify that measurement looks roughly correct. Now to center them choose a known point on both sides like the brake disk or a bracket. Measure in from that point to your perch on both sides. Shift them side to side until it's the same length. Then Measure from one perch to the other to reverify they are the same width as what you had on the old axle. Now your in the ball park. Mark the axle and hold them in place with magnets and you can move on to setting how the perches are clocked which is pretty easy to do. During this process you can set the axle under the jeep and springs and mock things up and Measure a bunch. Measure as many times as it takes to be confident, no such thing as over measuring. Hope that helps. Feel free to comment more if you have more questions.
